The Delta State Government has constructed a new Health Centre for the people of Ewhokpaka in Isoko South Local Government Area.
The new health centre, which was constructed under the D-CARES program by the Community Driven Development Social Implementation Unit (CDDSIU), was implemented by the Delta State Government with financial support from the World Bank, in line with the MORE Agenda of His Excellency, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
For decades, residents of the Ewhokpaka community have endured the pain of having no nearby medical facility. Many have had to travel long distances to Ozoro or Oleh, sometimes in the middle of the night, to access basic health services. This has particularly affected pregnant women, children, and the elderly, who often bear the brunt of delayed medical care.
Speaking during her visit to the newly completed health centre, the Technical Head of CDDSIU, Mrs. Akohwoareho Orubu, expressed her delight at the successful completion of the project. She said, “This health centre is not just a building; it is a symbol of hope and a new beginning for the people of Ewhokpaka. The Delta State Government, with support from the World Bank, is committed to ensuring that no community is left behind. We believe that quality healthcare should be accessible to all, no matter where you live.”
She added that the project aligns with the MORE Agenda of Governor Oborevwori, which stands for Meaningful development, Opportunities for all, Realistic reforms, and Enhanced peace and security.
Mrs. Onoriode Eduede, who could not hold back her joy, shared her experience: “We have suffered in this village for too long. If your child falls sick at night, you are at the mercy of God because the nearest clinic is in Ozoro. Sometimes, by the time you get there, it’s too late. This new health centre is a big blessing to us.”
Another resident, Mr. Ignatius Emamezi, added: “This is the first time we are seeing this kind of government project in Ewhokpaka. It will reduce our stress and save lives, especially for our wives and children.”
The health centre, once operational, is expected to provide maternal and child healthcare, immunizations, emergency treatment, and other basic medical services. It will significantly reduce the burden on neighbouring towns and offer Ewhokpaka residents quicker and safer access to health care.
