Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has issued a scathing response to comments allegedly made by former Governor Rauf Aregbesola regarding the 2026 governorship election, accusing him of leaving behind a trail of maladministration and financial recklessness.
In a statement released on Monday by the governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Governor Adeleke dismissed Aregbesola’s purported threat to reclaim power in 2026, labeling it a “blurry vision” disconnected from the realities in Osun.
“Osun people know their present and past governors,” Adeleke said. “Our people are smart enough to know that the worst era for Osun State is that of Mr. Aregbesola, under whom many pensioners lost their lives, thousands of livelihoods were disrupted, and the state plunged into unsustainable debt that is still hurting the state till today.”
The governor accused Aregbesola of presiding over a regime marked by huge debts, irregular salaries, abandoned infrastructure, and inflated contracts, which continue to strain the state’s financial health.
He further noted that his administration has paid off 28 months of salary arrears and nearly ₦60 billion in pension debt burdens he attributed to the fallout from Aregbesola’s eight-year tenure.
Rasheed emphasized that the Adeleke-led government has focused on transparency, people-oriented policies, and fiscal discipline. “No voter in Osun is ready for a return to the dark days,” he asserted.
Governor Adeleke also highlighted the local content initiative, a non-borrowing governance approach, and a “people-first” development model as part of his administration’s achievements all of which have earned him accolades, both locally and nationally.
