The Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu highlighted the efforts of the state government in improving infrastructure and promoting realistic reforms across the state.
The Commissioner stated this in an interview on Advocate Broadcast Network ( ADBN) this morning in Uyo City, as they prepared for the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations week, which began today in Uyo, the capital city of Akwa Ibom
Mr. Aniagwu disclosed that the State Government, led by Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori had made significant progress in promoting his MORE agenda, which includes Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhancing peace and security across the nooks and crannies of the state.
The Commissioner revealed that the two years of the present administration in Delta State were a testament to the laudable achievements of the workaholic governor.
When asked about the recent defections in Delta State, where 21 members of the state House of Assembly, including the Speaker, defected from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Aniagwu explained that the move was aimed at promoting the development of the state, emphasizing that the decision to defect was not based on personal interests but rather on the need to support good governance and development in Delta State.
Regarding the notion of a one-party state, Mr. Aniagwu noted that the fear of a one-party state should not be pronounced, as the key to good governance lies in the ability of the government to add value to the lives of its citizens. He cited the example of China, where the Communist Party has been able to provide for its citizens despite being a one-party system.
On the issue of defections and the role of opposition parties, Mr. Aniagwu stressed the importance of having a formidable opposition that can hold the government accountable. He emphasized the need for good governance and the delivery of dividends of democracy to citizens rather than focusing solely on the number of political parties.
The Commissioner also touched on the issue of coalition politics, noting that the key to success lies in the ability of political parties to add value to the lives of citizens. He emphasized that the ruling party’s focus should be on delivering good governance and providing for the needs of citizens rather than worrying about opposition parties.
