The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Delta State has dissolved its state executive committee led by Engr. Austine Okolie, citing incompetence, anti-party activities, and alleged sabotage of the opposition.
At a state congress held Saturday, September 27, 2025, in the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Warri, delegates from all 25 local government areas unanimously passed a vote of no confidence in Okolie’s leadership and inaugurated a new state working committee.
Moving the motion, Hon. Alex Edumegbe (Warri South) accused Okolie of boycotting an August 9 reception for high-profile defectors from the PDP, APGA, Labour Party, and NNPP—even in the presence of the party’s National Executive Whip, Elder Igbenoba.
Supporting the motion, Hon. Confidence Okeyebulor (Ika North East) alleged that Okolie secretly backed Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in the last election despite the ADC fielding its own governorship candidate, Amb. Shedrack Ekure. Other speakers, including Mr. Godwin (Burutu) and Hon. Felix Ogbodu, charged that Okolie lacked interest in building the party and would “destroy the ADC before 2027” if left in office.
The meeting also cited an “inferiority complex,” fear of losing control to new members, and gross incompetence among the reasons for his removal.
The newly constituted leadership is headed by Hon. Barbar Ebimowei as State Chairman, with Chief Sunday Asurai as Deputy Chairman, Okoyoyo Regina as Women Leader, Jacob Nwanzekwu as Publicity Secretary, and Mr. Lucky as Secretary, alongside other officers for finance, youth, and treasury.
In his acceptance speech, Ebimowei thanked members for their confidence, pledged inclusive leadership, and announced that membership cards would be issued free of charge. Publicity Secretary Nwanzekwu urged party faithful to unite and “prepare to unseat the incumbent government in Delta State.”
