Asaba, Delta State – May 13, 2025 — The Director General of Security in Delta State, Hon. David Tonwe, has firmly dismissed concerns about rising insecurity in the state, describing such claims as misleading and politically motivated.
Addressing journalists in Asaba, Tonwe clarified that the administration of Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Oborevwori remains resolute in its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across all communities in the state.
“Delta is safe,” Tonwe declared. “The Nigeria Police Force, the Army, and other security agencies are working round the clock to maintain peace and order. We will not allow a handful of individuals to destabilize our state.”
He accused certain individuals of deliberately fueling panic to tarnish the government’s image and sabotage its ongoing security efforts. According to him, some of the loudest voices criticizing the state’s security situation are the same actors stoking unrest for selfish political gains.
Tonwe emphasized that no society, regardless of its advancement, is entirely free of security challenges. Drawing a comparison with nations like the United States, he pointed out that Delta State is performing commendably despite its complex demographic and socio-political landscape.
He lauded Governor Oborevwori’s leadership, crediting him with implementing strategic and proactive security initiatives that have significantly reduced crime and fostered development. “The governor’s focus on security and development has brought relative peace and transformation to our dear state,” he said.
Issuing a stern warning, Tonwe stated that the government will no longer tolerate any efforts to undermine the state’s peace. “We are determined to identify and bring all perpetrators to justice,” he said, urging those involved in inciting insecurity to desist or face the full weight of the law.
He concluded by appealing to residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies. “Together, we will continue to keep Delta safe,” Tonwe assured.
