The Delta State Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Jamani Tommy Ejiro, has been honoured with the prestigious Award of Excellence as the Outstanding Personality of the Year 2024 by Forward News Media. The award ceremony, which took place in Asaba in recognition of his outstanding contributions to environmental sustainability and leadership in Delta State, was marked by heartfelt reflections on his life journey.
Born in mid-1985, Hon. Ejiro is set to mark his 40th birthday on May 20. From humble beginnings in Sapele, he rose through life’s challenges with a vision for leadership deeply rooted in family values and community service.
“I was brought up by my late mother, a devout Anglican, who instilled in us Christian values that shaped my path,” he said. “Growing up wasn’t easy, but it taught me responsibility early on, especially as the first son.”
His educational journey began at Ethiope Primary School, Sapele, and continued at Okpe Grammar School, where his leadership skills first came to the fore. He served as class prefect from JSS3 to his final year and later emerged as the Labour Prefect for the entire school. At Delta State University, Abraka, where he studied Sociology, Hon. Ejiro Jamani became a student activist and a prominent voice in student unionism.
“I always knew I would end up in politics. Even before I held any formal office, I was already leading and organizing,” he noted.
His political journey began earnestly in 2007 when, as a young man, he played an active role in the election of former Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan. He continued his political involvement through subsequent elections in 2011 and 2015, helping to mobilize grassroots support in his community.
Now serving as Commissioner for Environment under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration, Hon. Ejiro Jamani is championing the drive for a cleaner and greener Delta State. He urged Deltans to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse and support the government’s efforts to make the state the cleanest in the country.

“Our Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, is investing massively in infrastructure across the three senatorial districts. The MORE Agenda is delivering real impact, and we need the support of every Deltan to sustain this momentum,” he stated.
While receiving the award, Hon. Ejiro Jamani expressed deep appreciation to Forward News Media for the recognition. He dedicated the honour to Governor Oborevwori and the people of Delta State.
“This award is not just for me—it’s a reflection of the progress we’re making together. The MORE Agenda continues to inspire us to build a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable Delta,” he said.
The Commissioner’s story is one of resilience, leadership, and unwavering commitment to public service—values that continue to define his legacy in Delta State.
