The Head of Service (HoS) of Delta State, Dr. (Mrs.) Mininim Oseji, has congratulated Mr. Chukwuka Aghedo, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Housing, on his retirement after an illustrious 34-year career in the state civil service.
Receiving Mr. Aghedo during a courtesy visit to her office, Dr. Oseji expressed delight at his record of selfless service and commended his dedication to duty. She described his retirement as “well deserved,” praying for his continued good health and urging him to “retire to refire.”
“Retirement is not the end of active life,” she said, encouraging him to stay engaged through hobbies such as swimming, golf, reading, and indoor games. “Remain active and keep interacting with loved ones.”
In his remarks, Mr. Aghedo offered gratitude to God for sustaining him in good health throughout his service years. He thanked Delta State Governor Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sheriff Oborevwori for the privilege to serve as Permanent Secretary and appreciated former Governor Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa for appointing him in 2021 during the challenging period of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Recalling his journey, Mr. Aghedo noted that he joined the civil service on August 20, 1991, and served in several ministries, including Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Commerce and Industry, Arts, Culture and Tourism, Lands and Survey, Peace and Conflict Resolution, and Works—where he first became Permanent Secretary—before moving to Cabinet and Administration and finally Housing.
He praised his mentors, colleagues, and subordinates, encouraging them to keep “the fire of work burning” as they continue to serve Delta State.
To honour his meritorious career, the Office of the Head of Service hosted a special luncheon at Elomaz Hotel, Asaba, celebrating four recently retired Permanent Secretaries: Mr. Maxwell Awuse (Office of the HoS), Dr. Ejiro Ogheneaga (Science and Technology), Mrs. Angalaere Arthur Prest-Umukoro (Culture and Tourism), and Mr. Chukwuka Aghedo (Housing).
The event drew an array of dignitaries, including members of the College of Permanent Secretaries, Welfare Committee Chair Dr. Ngozi Mogbolu, Secretary Mr. Fred Yoro, and senior officials such as Mr. Wilson Chukwuma (Office of the HoS), Mrs. Felicia Reno-Orugbo (Energy), and Mr. Kingsley Olomukoro (Establishments and Pensions).
The gathering reflected a spirit of gratitude and camaraderie, underscoring the value of dedicated service and the lasting legacy of Mr. Aghedo and his fellow retirees.
