In a bold push for economic diversification and retirement security, the Delta State Head of Service, Dr. (Mrs.) Mininim Oseji, has called on civil servants across the state to embrace agriculture as a viable and rewarding venture.
Dr. Oseji made the call during an interactive session held at the Conference Hall of the Office of the Head of Service in Asaba. The event brought together key stakeholders, including Permanent Secretaries, Directors in the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, and heads of associated agencies.
Speaking passionately, the Head of Service described agriculture as the most dependable alternative civil servants can pursue even while still in active service. According to her, farming not only ensures a steady post-retirement livelihood but also offers peace of mind and a unique connection with nature.
“Civil servants need to start thinking beyond the present. Agriculture is a profitable, fulfilling venture that brings calmness and stability. With the right guidance, mentoring, and training, anyone can succeed in farming,” she stated.
To ensure civil servants are properly equipped, Dr. Oseji directed the management of the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources to intensify sensitization efforts and provide the necessary support to help government workers begin their agricultural journeys.
She reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote self-reliance, food security, and economic empowerment among its workforce.
