The Delta State Commissioner for Special Duties, Dr. Ifeanyi Michael Osuoza, has expressed deep shock and grief over the sudden passing of renowned lawyer and political commentator, Barr. Jesutega Onokpasa, describing his death as a devastating loss to Delta State and Nigeria.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, Dr. Osuoza said the news of Barr. Onokpasa’s death came as a “rude, unexpected shock” that has left many who knew him in disbelief. He described Onokpasa as a “direct, passionate, and spirited intellectual” who never hesitated to share his convictions—whether in private discussions or on national and international platforms.
“Barr. Jesutega was bold and fearless, hardworking and dedicated. He was fiercely loyal and unwavering in his political beliefs, especially his vibrant advocacy for the #RenewedHope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s administration,” Dr. Osuoza said. “He was also a firm believer in the greatness of Delta State and the potential of Nigeria.”
Recalling their personal relationship, Dr. Osuoza highlighted Onokpasa’s human side, describing him as a kind and selfless friend whose support was both genuine and unwavering. “He was someone you could always rely on—in need and in deed,” he noted.
The Commissioner emphasized that Onokpasa’s sudden demise has created a “huge vacuum” that will be hard to fill. He extended his heartfelt condolences to Onokpasa’s family, loved ones, and all who admired his work, praying that God grants them the strength to bear this irreplaceable loss.
