The Delta State Judiciary has officially announced its Easter recess, with all High Court sittings set to be suspended for one week beginning Friday, April 3, 2026.
The directive, approved by the Chief Judge of Delta State, Hon. Justice Tessy Diai, will see court activities paused until Friday, April 10, 2026. Normal judicial proceedings are scheduled to resume on Monday, April 13, 2026.

According to a statement issued by the Office of the Chief Registrar of the High Court of Justice in Asaba, the recess is in line with existing legal provisions governing court operations in the state. Specifically, the approval draws authority from Section 36 of the High Court Law, Cap H3, Volume 3, Laws of Delta State of Nigeria 2006, as well as Order 45, Rules 3 and 4 (b) and (c) of the Delta State High Court Civil Procedure Rules 2009.
The announcement, signed by Chief Registrar Eloho Okodiya Onoriose, emphasized that there will be no court sittings throughout the duration of the recess. Legal practitioners, litigants, and members of the public are therefore advised to take note and plan accordingly.
The Easter recess is a customary break within the judicial calendar, allowing judges, court staff, and legal professionals time for rest and observance of the Christian festive period. It also reflects a broader institutional practice aimed at maintaining efficiency and balance within the justice system.
Residents of Delta State, particularly those with pending court matters, are encouraged to stay informed and liaise with their legal representatives regarding any adjustments to court schedules.
The judiciary reassures the public of its continued commitment to the timely dispensation of justice upon resumption of sittings.
