Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has been described as a man of compassion and solidarity
The Commissioner Bureau for Special Duties Hon. Etacherure Ejiro Terry gave the description while presenting relief assistance to victims of the fire disaster at Oghareki, Ethiope West Local Government Area of the State.
The presentation of the financial assistance took place at the State Emergency Management Agency warehouse in Asaba.
Hon. Terry reaffirmed Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s Renewed Hope for More Agenda is dedicated to the welfare of its citizens stating that the humanitarian gesture was in line with the Governors commitment to the welfare of all Deltans.
While sympathizing with the victims, the Commissioner urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the money to kickstart their lives again and advised them to be vigilant in order to avoid future disasters by putting away things that could ignite fire.
The Director, State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) Mr Alfred Ebreneyin noted that the presentation of relief assistance to Oghareki market fire disaster victims was a symbol of compassion and solidarity, showcasing the government’s commitment to supporting its citizens in times of crisis stressing that it was a reminder that even in the face of tragedy, there was always hope and support for those in need in the state.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, one of the victims, Mrs Rachael Udo who could barely hold back tears of happiness, said the financial assistance had given them hope and had shown that they were not alone in their struggles.
Mrs. Udo thanked the state government and the Bureau for Special Duties for not diverting the support that was meant for them.
She expressed their sincere gratitude to the state government, led by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori particularly recognizing the governors unwavering efforts towards building a better and dynamic State while assuring him of their support.
She averred that Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori and the entire State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) team, led by Director Mr. Alfred Ebreneyin had given the beneficiaries a new lease of life as well as belief in the State governments determination to extricate the people from the stranglehold of poverty.
Recall that on December 31, 2024, a mysterious fire gutted the Oghareki market, which resulted in the loss of two lives and significant damage to properties.
According to eyewitnesses, the fire completely razed about six stores located at the entrance of the market, leaving many traders and residents with nothing.
