Ghanaian actress and entrepreneur Rosemond Brown, widely known as Akuapem Poloo, has revealed details of a troubling incident from 2010 involving an unnamed former Black Stars player.
In a candid interview with Andy Dosty on Hitz FM, Poloo recounted the unsettling experience, shedding light on the pressures faced by young women in social settings.
According to Poloo, the incident took place at Rockstone’s Office, a popular hangout spot in Accra at the time.
She explained that she was enjoying an evening with friends when the footballer, who frequented the venue’s VIP section, approached her.
After exchanging contact details, he invited her for a solo outing, which she accepted.
However, Poloo noted that she felt uneasy during the date and declined to eat or drink, citing her discomfort around the player.
The situation escalated when the footballer invited her into his car after the outing.
Poloo alleged that he made inappropriate advances, exposing himself and offering her a substantial amount of money in exchange for sexual favours.
“He unzipped himself and asked me to ‘ride’ him, promising bundles of US dollars,” she recounted.
Poloo, feeling unsafe, declined the offer and left the scene, ignoring the player’s subsequent attempts to contact her.
She shared that she even suggested involving a friend to diffuse the situation, but the footballer insisted on her specifically.
Poloo’s decision to share this story publicly aims to caution young women about the potential dangers they may face in unfamiliar environments.
“I want to highlight the kind of pressure women, especially young ones, can face in such situations,” she said during the interview.
Her account has sparked conversations about safety and consent, resonating with many who have praised her for speaking out.
The actress, now known as Haniya following her conversion to Islam in 2022, has been focusing on personal growth and maintaining a low profile in recent years.
She emphasized that her past experiences, including this incident, had shaped her commitment to advocating for respect and dignity.
While she chose not to disclose the footballer’s identity, her story has reignited discussions about accountability and the challenges women face in navigating public and private spaces.
This revelation comes amid Poloo’s efforts to redefine her public image, moving away from past controversies, including her 2021 conviction for posting a nude photo with her son on social media, which led to a 90-day prison sentence.
She has since expressed remorse and embraced a more reserved lifestyle, crediting her faith for guiding her transformation.
