A source who witnessed the arrest of Miss Nnaji, but appealed not to be mentioned lamented the cruel way and manner the police from the Asaba Area Command dehumanised and manhandled her over the possession of a condom.
Some lawless policemen attached to the Asaba Area Command, Delta State Police Command, have allegedly dehumanised and detained a 28 years old Enugu woman in Asaba, SaharaReporters has learnt.
SaharaReporters reliably gathered that the 28 years old woman, identified as Miss Chinenye Nnaji was arrested following the discovery of a condom in her bag.
A source who witnessed the arrest of Miss Nnaji, but appealed not to be mentioned lamented the cruel way and manner the police from the Asaba Area Command dehumanised and manhandled her over the possession of a condom.
According to the source, Miss Nnaji was arrested and picked up on Saturday, December, 20, 2025, at about 11pm at Pinnacle junction, Asaba where she was eating and dragged into a waiting police Sienna vehicle and taken to the Area Command in company of other women and boys arrested in the area.
“This is how the police in Asaba, especially from the Asaba Area Command usually arrest innocent people at random especially young girls and boys and throw them into the cell and extort money ranging from N150,000 to N250,000 for individual for bail as the case may be.
“Disgracefully and shamefully, the Area Commander has always supported his men because he gets his own share from whatever money collected from these innocent suspects.
“They always dehumanise, brutalise and assault their victims and in the end threaten them with prison as an easy way to extort money.
“What the police did to this young lady, Miss Nnaji is so despicable. She was tortured to the point where she has to pass faeces on her body and they kept her in one of the private rooms where she was locked up with other suspects arrested randomly.
“Miss Nnaji spent three days in that very room without food or water. The incident was too dehumanising.”, the source lamented.
Narrating her ordeal to SaharaReporters, Miss Chinenye Nnaji, cried profusely saying the police from the Asaba Area Command mercilessly tortured her. The lawless officers were led by a police officer identified as Chidi.
In tears, Miss Nnaji narrated that her only offence that warranted the police brutality was a condom allegedly found in her possession.
“My name is Chinenye Nnaji, I am from Enugu State but based in Asaba, Delta State and I sell ladies hairs for a living. On that fateful Saturday, 20th, December, 2025, I went out for my normal business around town and I was returning home at about 11pm and when I got to Pinnacle junction in Asaba, I stopped over to get some food for myself. And from nowhere we saw this marked sienna with ACPOL written on its body and loaded with police from the Asaba Area Command and they came down and started chasing and arresting innocent people at random.
“As I was eating my food the police came to my table and held me and began to search me and they found a condom on me. At this point they started calling me all sort of names from a prostitute to ashawo, criminal, and kidnappers’ girlfriend. Along with other innocent girls and boys arrested, we were taken straight to the Asaba Area Command and myself and two girls were dumped in a private room and locked us up and left us to die of hunger and water.
“The policemen at the Asaba Area Command with the full knowledge of the area commander, randomly arrest innocent Nigerians, keep them in cells for days and the police will be extorting money from the innocent suspects who have not committed any offence known to law. Let the area commander and his men be investigated.
“The Asaba Area Command is a den of corruption because I know what I am saying and they lied a lot. So, this is what I suffered in the hands of these corrupt Asaba Area Command police. The Asaba Area Command is notoriously known for night random raiding of innocent girls and boys on the streets of Asaba.”
All efforts to reach the Area Commander, ACP Udeze Alex Mbanefo for comments were not successful as his mobile line was not available as at the time of filing this report.
Calls and messages to the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), SP Bright Edafe were not responded to as at press time.
