Dutse, Jigawa State – September 16, 2025
The National Orientation Agency (NOA), Jigawa State Directorate, on Tuesday joined the rest of the country to commemorate the 2025 National Ordinance Day, calling on Nigerians to accord greater respect to the nation’s symbols of sovereignty.
Speaking at an event held in Dutse, the State Director, Mallam Ahmad Ibrahim Tijjani, described the national symbols as “powerful representations of Nigeria’s dignity, identity and unity,” stressing that they are far more than mere ceremonial objects.
Tijjani listed the symbols to include the National Flag, Coat of Arms, National Anthem, Pledge, Constitution, National Identity Card, International Passport, and other official emblems. He noted that September 16 is observed annually to remember the formal handover of these symbols to Nigeria at independence in 1960.
“Every Nigerian, especially the younger generation, must consciously honour these symbols,” he said. “They embody the values that bind us together as one nation.”
The NOA boss reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to sustained public sensitisation, highlighting ongoing programmes designed to instil patriotism and civic responsibility among citizens.
He also drew attention to the Flags and Coat of Arms Act, Cap 48 of 1960, which provides guidelines for the display and use of the national flag and the Coat of Arms, urging strict adherence to the law.
The event formed part of NOA’s nationwide activities aimed at deepening appreciation of Nigeria’s national heritage and fostering unity across diverse communities.
