Godfrey C. Osakwe, a fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and a seasoned development communicator, has extended warm congratulations to Miss Chelsea Amaka Iweanyi; a proud daughter of Akwukwu-Igbo Kingdom and other outstanding recipients of the 2020–2023 President’s NYSC Honours Award.
The prestigious award is being conferred today, Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at 12 noon by His Excellency, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, at the Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa, Aso Rock, Abuja.
The announcement has sparked widespread excitement among awardees, their families, and communities across the country.
Among the celebrated honourees, is Miss Chelsea Amaka Iweanyi, a Political Science graduate of Anambra State University, Igbariam Campus, and an indigene of Akwukwu-Igbo, Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State. She served at the Lere Local Government Secretariat, Saminaka, Kaduna State, during her national youth service.
Chelsea distinguished herself by executing a transformational Community Development Service (CDS) project, the renovation of a long-abandoned 14-room primary healthcare centre. The project, valued at over N5.4 million, has restored essential healthcare access to underserved rural residents.
Speaking on her inspiration, Chelsea revealed, “In 2015, I lost my brother, and it was a very painful experience. That loss inspired me to renovate the long-abandoned hospital so that people can have access to quality healthcare.”
Despite receiving a modest monthly allowance of N33,000 as a corps member, she mobilised support from a cross-section of the community, including religious leaders, political stakeholders, and traditional rulers, demonstrating the power of passion and civic responsibility.
Her selfless act exemplifies the core values of the NYSC scheme, especially the CDS component, which aims to instil in Nigerian youth a strong sense of duty, service, and impact at the grassroots level.
“As we honour Chelsea and her fellow awardees for their patriotic contributions, we must celebrate them as true ambassadors of the Nigerian spirit; much like our Super Falcons, who recently clinched their record 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title in Morocco. Their stories reflect resilience, courage, and national pride,” Osakwe stated.
“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all recipients of the President’s NYSC Honours Award. As emerging leaders and role models, I urge you to uphold the highest ethical standards and continue to shine your light for others to follow,” he added.
Mr. Osakwe also called on state governments, local government chairmen, and community leaders in the home states of the awardees to formally recognise and celebrate these exemplary young Nigerians, noting, “They represent the promise of a better Nigeria, one built on service, compassion, and ethical leadership.”
“Indeed, there is virtue in good deeds. Let us all be inspired.”
