Popular online media publisher and fierce government critic, Fejiro Oliver, was dramatically arrested on Thursday by operatives of the Force Intelligence Department (FID) in Abuja and whisked to Asaba, Delta State.
Eyewitnesses said Oliver was picked up from his Garki office before being taken to the FID headquarters and later moved to the airport for an evening flight to the Delta capital.
Sources familiar with the development alleged that the arrest followed orders from Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, though police authorities have not confirmed any directive or disclosed reasons for the operation.
Oliver, a prominent commentator on governance across the South-South region, has repeatedly accused the Oborevwori administration of financial mismanagement and of turning a blind eye to alleged police harassment of citizens.
This is not the first time the journalist has faced detention. Years ago, he was held at the Ikoyi Prisons in Lagos over controversial publications before eventually regaining his freedom.
Fejiro Oliver is the founder and editor of the influential online platform Secret Reporters, known for hard-hitting investigative pieces that expose alleged corruption and abuse of office at state and federal levels. His work has earned him both accolades and fierce opposition from political figures and security agencies.
As of press time, neither the police nor the Delta State Government had issued an official statement on the latest arrest, leaving questions swirling around the motives and legality of the action.
