The Director General of Security in Delta State, Hon. David Tonwe, has reiterated the importance of treating security personnel with respect, emphasizing that the standard rules of engagement remain the foundation of Operation Delta Sweep’s conduct.
Responding to a recent video circulated by an online blogger alleging that operatives of Operation Delta Sweep harassed an innocent citizen, Hon. Tonwe dismissed the claims, stating that the footage was manipulated and misrepresented the actual event.
He referenced an incident involving Mr. Moses Hujionye on April 20, 2025, noting that verified video evidence exists which contradicts the narrative being spread. According to the DG, the operatives have undergone rigorous training on civil engagement and are instructed to treat citizens with respect at all times, both on the road and at designated security flashpoints.
Hon. Tonwe expressed concern over the increasing tendency of some individuals to show disdain towards security officers, and warned that the misuse of social media to malign security operatives and incite public disrespect will not be tolerated. He warned that legal action will be taken against those who spread falsehoods or encourage disorder.

He clarified that Operation Delta Sweep is not mandated to investigate or prosecute crimes, stressing that all arrests made are duly handed over to the appropriate law enforcement agencies for further investigation and prosecution.
The DG encouraged members of the public to report any unprofessional behavior by operatives directly to his office for prompt disciplinary action, to prevent rights violations and ensure public order is maintained.
Highlighting the achievements of Operation Delta Sweep in combating crime, Hon. Tonwe criticized those circulating unverified videos, noting that such actions undermine the progress made in tackling criminal activities across the state.
He commended the unwavering commitment of all security agencies in the fight against kidnapping, armed robbery, and other serious crimes, and urged residents to support these efforts by providing credible information that can aid security operations under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration.
Hon. Tonwe also expressed gratitude to the Governor for his continued support to security personnel, pledging that every effort will be made to ensure that Delta State remains unsafe for criminals.
To those aiding and abetting crime, he issued a stern warning: “The long arm of the law will soon catch up with you.”
He concluded by urging all security operatives to remain vigilant and resolute in flushing out criminal elements from the state.
