What began as a nightmare ended in glory. Nigeria’s Super Falcons came from two goals down to defeat host nation Morocco 3–2 in a thrilling Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final, clinching their record-extending 10th title in front of a stunned crowd at Stade Olympique.
Morocco had taken a commanding lead with first-half strikes from Ghizlane Chebbak and Sanaâ Mssoudy, igniting hopes of a maiden title for the Atlas Lionesses. But the Falcons responded with the kind of championship mettle that defines dynasties. Esther Okoronkwo sparked the comeback with a penalty, then assisted Folashade Ijamilusi for the equaliser. With just two minutes left in regular time, Okoronkwo delivered a set-piece that Joe Echegini converted into the match-winner.
Coach Justin Madugu’s side displayed resilience, composure, and an unyielding belief that once again reaffirmed Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s football.
Congratulations to the Super Falcons—10-time champions and still Africa’s undisputed football queens.
