It is with deep sorrow and a heavy heart that I mourn the passing of my big brother and friend, Distinguished Senator Peter Onyeluka Nwaoboshi. He was a proud son of Ibusa and a statesman whose life of service left a lasting impact on Delta North , Delta State and Nigeria as a whole.
Peter and I shared a long political journey. Although we sometimes stood on different sides, our friendship, mutual respect and commitment to the progress of our people remained constant.
The last time I saw him was on 29 November 2025 at the funeral service of the father of former Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Dele Joseph Ezeoba. We exchanged our usual warm greetings. When I did not see him at the reception, I called him the next day. He explained that he had not been feeling well and I sympathised with him, unaware that this would be our final conversation.
During that call, I suggested that he call a meeting of Delta North political leaders before the end of the year. He said he would not be available in December and asked me to call the meeting on his behalf, describing me as second in command after him. I still felt his presence was important and he agreed that January 2026 would be a better time. We ended the call with the expectation of meeting again.
Today, I mourn a man of courage, conviction and loyalty. Beyond politics, Peter was warm, thoughtful and genuinely committed to the welfare of his people. His passing is a painful loss to Delta North and to all who knew him.
My sincere condolences goes to the Nwaoboshi family, the people of Delta North and to everyone touched by his life. May he rest in peace and may his memory forever be a blessing.
Farewell my big brother.
