The University of Benin Alumni Association has appealed to the Federal Government to take swift and decisive action on key national issues affecting education, infrastructure, and security.
Rising from its 102nd Council Meeting held on Saturday, August 30, 2025, in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, the Association warned that failure to resolve lingering disputes with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) could trigger another round of strikes in tertiary institutions, with devastating consequences for students and Nigeria’s human capital development.

In a communique issued at the end of the meeting, the alumni body also urged the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency on federal roads in Edo and Delta States, citing the Benin–Warri–Port Harcourt expressway as a critical highway that has become a nightmare for commuters and a setback to socio-economic growth.
On national security, the Council called for improved welfare for officers of the Nigeria Police Force, including prompt payment of retirement benefits, stressing that neglecting the force undermines morale and weakens efforts to tackle insecurity.

The Council further commended the government and people of Bayelsa State for providing a warm and conducive environment that contributed to the successful hosting of the 102nd meeting.

The communique was signed by Emmanuel Oriazuwa Esq., President Worldwide; Benjamin Omere, General Secretary; and Tosan Ganranwei, Public Relations Officer.
