Immediate Past Deputy Governor of Delta State, Dcn. Kingsley Burutu Otuaro, Esq., has congratulated His Royal Majesty, King Oboro Gbaraun II, JP, the Pere of the Ancient Gbaramatu Kingdom, on his inauguration as Chairman of the Advisory Council of the Institute for Niger Delta Studies (INDS), Niger Delta University, Wilberforce Island, Bayelsa State.
Otuaro, in a congratulatory message issued on Monday, described the new responsibility bestowed on the monarch as a well-deserved recognition of his exemplary leadership, wisdom, statesmanship and commitment to the development and advancement of the Niger Delta.
He said the inauguration represented not only a personal honour to the revered traditional ruler but also a source of pride to the people of Gbaramatu Kingdom, Delta State and the entire Niger Delta region.
Otuaro expressed confidence that King Gbaraun II would bring his wealth of experience, intellectual disposition and deep understanding of the challenges confronting the Niger Delta to bear on the activities of the Advisory Council.
According to him, the monarch’s new position offers an important platform to further promote research, scholarship, policy development and constructive engagement on issues affecting the Niger Delta.
He stressed the importance of strengthening the link between academic research, public policy and the realities of communities in the region, noting that institutions such as INDS had an important role to play in generating knowledge and ideas capable of driving sustainable development.
The immediate past Deputy Governor described King Gbaraun II as a respected traditional institution and voice in the Niger Delta, whose leadership and commitment to the wellbeing of his people had continued to attract recognition.
He said: “Your inauguration is not only a personal honour but also a source of pride to the people of Gbaramatu Kingdom, Delta State and the entire Niger Delta.”
Otuaro further expressed optimism that the monarch’s leadership would add value to the Institute’s mission and enhance its contribution to finding sustainable solutions to the developmental challenges confronting the region.
He prayed for divine wisdom, strength and guidance for King Gbaraun II as he assumes the new responsibility, while wishing him a successful and impactful tenure.
He also expressed confidence that the monarch would use the opportunity to advance knowledge, promote greater understanding of the Niger Delta and contribute meaningfully to efforts aimed at securing a more prosperous and sustainable future for the region.
