Senator Ede Dafinone, representing Delta Central Senatorial District, has described teachers as the “architects of Nigeria’s future,” urging governments and other stakeholders to prioritise their welfare, professional development and working conditions.
Dafinone made the call in a message to mark this year’s World Teachers’ Day, in which he commended teachers across Delta Central and Nigeria for their sacrifices and contributions to national development.
The senator said the quality of a nation’s education system remained a major determinant of its progress, stressing that teachers were at the centre of shaping the character, aspirations and future of young Nigerians.
According to him, teachers are not merely providers of academic knowledge but also play a critical role in moulding responsible citizens and preparing young people to confront the challenges of the future.
“Behind every accomplished professional, entrepreneur, public servant and leader is the influence of a teacher,” Dafinone said.
He argued that investment in teachers should be regarded as a strategic investment in Nigeria’s future, rather than simply an education-sector expenditure.
The Delta Central lawmaker called for improved working conditions, better remuneration, continuous professional development and the provision of modern teaching and learning tools to enable teachers to perform their duties effectively.
He also stressed the need for an enabling environment where teachers could give their best and provide children with the knowledge, skills and confidence required to succeed.
Dafinone particularly commended teachers in Delta Central who, despite difficult circumstances, continue to discharge their responsibilities with dedication and resilience.
“To every teacher across Delta Central, particularly those serving with dedication despite difficult circumstances, I salute your resilience and commitment,” he said.
He expressed optimism that the impact of teachers’ work today would translate into stronger leadership, greater prosperity and sustainable national development in the years ahead.
The senator, on behalf of his family and the people of Delta Central Senatorial District, wished teachers across the district and Nigeria a happy World Teachers’ Day, assuring them that their contributions to society remained invaluable.
