The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Nigeria Police Force have moved to strengthen security collaboration in Delta State ahead of the 2026 general elections, with both agencies pledging to deploy greater synergy, professionalism and intelligence-driven operations against crime and insecurity.
The assurance was given on Friday, October 16, 2026, when the newly deployed Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Samuel Erale, psc, mnips, paid a courtesy visit to the State Commandant of the NSCDC, Chinedu Igbo, at the Corps’ headquarters in Asaba.
The visit, which commenced at about 11:40 a.m., featured a Guard of Honour inspection before the Police Commissioner was formally received by Commandant Igbo and senior officers of the NSCDC.
Speaking during a closed-door meeting with senior officers of the Corps, CP Erale described inter-agency cooperation as critical to tackling insecurity, stressing that no security agency could effectively operate in isolation.
He expressed appreciation to Commandant Igbo for the warm reception, describing it as a demonstration of acceptance and unity between the two agencies.
The Commissioner, however, expressed concern over some challenges affecting collaboration among security agencies since his assumption of office, saying such gaps must be addressed to improve security operations across the state.
He said stronger coordination, professionalism and intelligence sharing would be central to the Police Command’s strategy for confronting crime and criminality in Delta.
According to him, the purpose of the visit was to deepen the existing relationship with the NSCDC and build a more formidable security partnership capable of responding effectively to emerging security threats.
Responding, Commandant Chinedu Igbo reaffirmed the NSCDC’s commitment to working closely with the Police and other security agencies to maintain peace and protect lives and property across the state.
He said the complexity of contemporary security challenges made collaboration, cooperation and coordination among security agencies imperative.
Commandant Igbo noted that the approach was consistent with the vision of the NSCDC Commandant General, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, OFR, on strengthening inter-agency cooperation.
He assured CP Erale of the Corps’ continued support for the Police, which he described as the lead agency in internal security.
The NSCDC boss further assured Deltans that the Corps would work with the Police and other relevant security agencies to provide a secure environment for the forthcoming general elections.
He pledged that the existing synergy between the agencies would be further strengthened to ensure that residents can exercise their civic responsibilities in an atmosphere of peace and security.
