The Orshi family of Benue State has been thrown into mourning following the death of Pastor Peter Tyoakaa Orshi, who died at the age of 60 after a brief illness.
Orshi reportedly died on Thursday, September 24, 2026, according to a statement issued by Barrister David Orshi on behalf of the family.
The deceased was described as a loving husband, father, uncle and brother, as well as a man who was cherished by his family, friends and members of his community.
His death has left his immediate family and other loved ones mourning the loss of a man they described as an important part of their lives.
Orshi was a member of the family of Orchiviri Dr. James Akperan Orshi, the third Tor Tiv, from Mbatiev, Mbapen, Tombu in Buruku Local Government Area of Benue State.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nancy Nguveren Orshi, a Deputy Director with Radio Benue, six children, relatives, in-laws and other loved ones.
Funeral rites
The family has announced a three-day programme of activities leading to the final burial of the deceased.
The funeral rites will commence on Wednesday, October 7, with a Service of Songs at the Household of Faith International Christian Centre, opposite Pardopas Secondary School, Makurdi.
The service is scheduled for 5pm.
On Thursday, October 8, the body will depart Bishop Murray Medical Centre, Makurdi, at 1pm for Tse-Kur Baka, where another wake will be held.
The church service and final burial will take place on Friday, October 9, beginning at 8am.
The family has appealed to relatives, friends, colleagues, associates and well-wishers to join them in mourning the deceased and celebrating his life.
It also expressed appreciation to those who have stood by the family with prayers, love and support following his death.
As the funeral approaches, family members, friends and associates are expected to converge in Makurdi and Tse-Kur Baka to pay their final respects to Pastor Orshi.
