Senator Ede Dafinone, representing Delta Central Senatorial District, has mourned the death of Chief Mike Adiotomre, describing the late Ovu-Inland-born political leader as a distinguished elder statesman, astute politician and respected bridge-builder.
Chief Adiotomre died at the age of 88.
In a condolence message, Dafinone said the death of the former political leader was a profound loss to his family, the people of Ovu-Inland, Ethiope East Local Government Area, Delta Central and the entire Urhobo Nation.
According to him, the deceased had a distinguished public service career spanning the old Bendel State and Delta State, including his service as Secretary of the defunct Bendel State Hospitals Management Board.
Dafinone said Chief Adiotomre demonstrated diligence, integrity and commitment to the development and wellbeing of his people in the various positions he occupied.
He also described the late elder as an astute politician and father figure whose experience and counsel were valued by successive generations of political leaders.
“Chief Adiotomre was a strong believer in dialogue and reconciliation. He earned respect across political divides and brought his wisdom and moderation to bear as a member of the Delta State Advisory and Peace Building Council,” Dafinone said.
The senator expressed condolences to the Adiotomre family, the people of Ovu-Inland and Ethiope East Local Government Area, as well as the wider Urhobo community.
He said the deceased’s long and impactful life remained a source of consolation to those mourning him, noting that he left behind a legacy of wisdom, leadership and service to his people.
Dafinone prayed for the repose of Chief Adiotomre’s soul and for God to grant his family, associates and other mourners the strength to bear the loss.
“Urhobo Nation has lost a respected elder and statesman whose contributions to our collective progress and peaceful coexistence will be remembered for generations,” he added.
