I received with profound shock and sadness the news of the untimely death of Mr. Adeda Ekwevugbe, a Deputy Director in the Delta State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, following an incident at his workplace.
The circumstances surrounding his death are deeply troubling and demand a thorough, transparent and impartial investigation. A man who went to his place of work in service to our state should not lose his life under circumstances that leave his family, colleagues and the public demanding answers.
On behalf of my family and the good people of Delta Central Senatorial District, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Ekwevugbe family of Ughelli Kingdom over this painful loss. The death of Mr. Ekwevugbe, an Urhobo son and dedicated public servant in the prime of his career, is heartbreaking.
To his family, I say: we share in your grief. As your Senator, I am deeply saddened by this tragedy, and I stand with you in this difficult hour.
I acknowledge the steps already taken by the Delta State Government under the leadership of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in constituting an Administrative Panel of Inquiry to establish the circumstances surrounding Mr. Ekwevugbe’s death. I equally note the ongoing investigation by the Delta State Police Command.
I therefore appeal to our people, particularly the people of Ughelli Kingdom, the Urhobo nation, civil servants and all concerned Deltans, to remain calm and allow the investigations to proceed without interference. Our grief and legitimate demand for answers must not be allowed to undermine the very process required to establish the truth.
However, let me be clear: there must be no cover-up, no sacred cows and no attempt to shield anyone found culpable. The investigation must follow the evidence wherever it leads, and anyone found responsible must face the full weight of the law.
Justice for Mr. Adeda Ekwevugbe must not only be done; it must be seen to be done.
I will continue to closely follow developments surrounding this unfortunate incident and work with the Governor, relevant authorities and security agencies to ensure that the truth is established and justice is served.
At this difficult moment, my thoughts and prayers remain with his family, friends, colleagues and the entire Ughelli Kingdom.
May God grant his soul eternal rest and give his family the strength to bear this irreparable loss.
