The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Tuesday unveiled a fresh proposal recommending the creation of new Registration Areas (RAs) and state constituencies across Warri South, Warri North, and Warri South-West Local Government Areas of Delta State.
The proposal was presented during a stakeholders’ meeting held on May 20, 2026, at the INEC headquarters in Abuja, where representatives of various interest groups and stakeholders gathered to deliberate on electoral and constituency matters affecting the Warri Federal Constituency.
According to stakeholders at the meeting, INEC explained that the proposal remains a working document open to review, observations, and contributions from affected parties before final decisions are reached.
Speaking after the meeting, Andrew Omagbemi Igban disclosed that stakeholders were officially given the opportunity to study the document and submit responses on any aspect they believe was not properly captured.
He noted that the commission encouraged participants to provide factual clarifications and justifications to support their positions on the proposed adjustments.
Igban further recalled that in previous submissions made to both INEC and the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), concerns were raised over what he described as “wrong coordinates” allegedly captured in parts of Warri South, Warri South-West, and Warri North Local Government Areas.
According to him, the disputed coordinates were among the issues that triggered protests and disagreements within the Warri Federal Constituency.
He emphasized that the document presented by INEC should be seen strictly as a proposal subject to scrutiny and stakeholder input.
“In our previous proposal and recommendations to INEC and the NSA, we pointed out that wrong coordinates were captured in Warri South, Warri South-West, and Warri North, which led to the protest in the Warri Federal Constituency. The document issued to us today is a proposal, and all stakeholders are expected to examine it carefully and revert to the commission with their observations,” he stated.
The development is expected to spark renewed political and community discussions across the affected local government areas as stakeholders prepare their official responses to the electoral commission.
