Former Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing recent developments within the party in Delta State and the need to pursue his political objectives outside the ruling party.
In a press statement dated May 22, 2026, the former lawmaker said his resignation takes immediate effect.
According to the statement signed by his Media Adviser, Sunday Areh, Senator Omo-Agege conveyed his decision in a letter addressed to the Chairman of Orogun Ward 2 in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
The former governorship candidate explained that after extensive consultations with his associates and supporters, he concluded that remaining in the APC would no longer enable him to effectively advance the interests of Delta Central Senatorial District, Delta State, and Nigeria.
“I will not remain a sitting duck in a party where I cannot advance the interests of Delta Central, Delta State and Nigeria,” Omo-Agege stated.
He, however, expressed appreciation to the APC for the opportunity to serve as Deputy President of the 9th Senate, wishing the party well in its future endeavours.
“I thank the APC for the opportunity to serve as Deputy President of the 9th Senate. I wish the party well and have requested that my name be removed from all membership records, registers, and communication lists,” he added.
The Obarisi of Urhoboland reaffirmed his commitment to the development of Delta Central and the nation, noting that he would continue to pursue effective representation and development-focused leadership outside the APC.
The resignation is expected to trigger fresh political realignments in Delta State ahead of future political contests.
