A fresh political controversy has erupted within the Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a frontline aspirant for the Ughelli South State Constituency seat, Barr. Vona Uwadehwe, has rejected his alleged disqualification from the party’s primary process and instituted legal action at the Federal High Court.q
Barr. Uwadehwe, while addressing journalists in Ughelli, described the disqualification as unjust, politically motivated, and contrary to the democratic ideals and principles of fairness upon which the APC was founded.
The embattled aspirant expressed disappointment over what he termed the failure of the party’s appeal panel and leadership to respond to several petitions and complaints he lodged following the screening exercise.
According to him, repeated attempts to resolve the matter internally within the party yielded no positive response, leaving him with no alternative but to seek judicial intervention to defend his constitutional rights and the mandate of his supporters.
“I have always believed in the ideals, integrity, and progressive vision of our great party, the APC,” Uwadehwe stated. “However, I cannot stand idly by while my aspiration and the collective hopes of my supporters are subjected to what appears to be a predetermined agenda designed to undermine fairness and internal democracy.”
He maintained that the screening committee’s decision lacked transparency and due process, insisting that the action did not reflect the wishes of APC members and stakeholders in Ughelli South Constituency.
Despite his grievances, Uwadehwe reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC and commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as visionary leadership and commitment to national development.
He also praised Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for ongoing developmental efforts across the state.
“My decision to challenge this process is not borne out of rebellion, but from a sincere desire to protect democratic values, equity, and justice within the system,” he added.
The legal practitioner further disclosed that his lawyers had already filed the necessary processes before the Federal High Court, challenging what he called “a clear infringement” on his rights and the democratic will of party faithful in the constituency.
Uwadehwe appealed to his supporters to remain calm, peaceful, and law-abiding as the legal battle unfolds, assuring them that the struggle was aimed at defending justice, fairness, and credible democratic processes.
“This journey is not about one individual; it is about justice, fairness, and the future of our constituency. By the grace of God, we possess the capacity, the courage, and the conviction to see this through,” he declared.
Amid growing speculations over the possibility of a fresh primary election in the constituency, the APC aspirant called on party leaders and stakeholders to ensure a transparent and inclusive process that reflects the genuine will of party members in Ughelli South.
He reiterated his commitment to effective representation, service delivery, and the overall development of the constituency, expressing confidence in the judicial process.
