Member representing Oshimili South Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Bridget Anyafulu, has emerged as the sole candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Anyafulu secured the party’s ticket during the APC primary election conducted on Wednesday across the 11 wards of Oshimili South Local Government Area.
Delegates and party members participated in the exercise at their various ward centres, affirming the lawmaker as the party’s consensus candidate for the State House of Assembly election.
The primary election was supervised by the Returning Officer alongside APC ward officials and party stakeholders in the local government area.
Announcing the result, the Returning Officer declared that Anyafulu had satisfied all requirements and secured the mandate of the party to fly its flag in the next general election.
“It is my pleasure to declare Hon. Bridget Anyafulu as the candidate of our party for Oshimili South Constituency in the next general election,” he stated.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the lawmaker, who currently serves in the Eighth Delta State Assembly, emerged unopposed during the exercise.
Speaking shortly after the primary, Anyafulu described the process as peaceful, transparent, and inclusive, commending the APC leadership for creating a level playing field for members.
According to her, the smooth conduct of the primary reflected the growing confidence and trust party members and constituents have in her leadership and representation.
“The overwhelming support from party members shows the confidence and acceptance I enjoy among my constituents,” she said.
The lawmaker further applauded the direct primary system, noting that it helped reduce unnecessary financial pressure on aspirants while allowing ordinary party members to freely choose their preferred candidates without intimidation.
She described the exercise as another positive sign that democracy in Nigeria was gradually becoming stronger and more participatory.
Anyafulu emphasized that active involvement of the people in the democratic process remained essential for accountable and credible leadership.
Speaking on expectations ahead of another tenure, the lawmaker assured constituents of improved representation, effective legislation, and better service delivery if re-elected.
She stated that experiences gathered during her first term would further strengthen her capacity to serve the people more efficiently.
“Governance is a continuous learning process that requires constant interaction with the people,” she noted.
Anyafulu added that constructive criticism, accessibility, and sustained community engagement had continued to shape her leadership style and deepen her connection with the grassroots.
She also expressed satisfaction with the impressive turnout recorded during the exercise despite her emergence as a consensus candidate, describing it as evidence of her strong support base across the constituency.
According to her, effective representation requires patience, understanding, and maintaining close ties with constituents during both periods of celebration and moments of disagreement.
