The Worldwide Council of the University of Benin Alumni Association (UBAA) has commended the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin, Professor Edoba B. Omoregie, and the university management for securing 100 per cent accreditation for all academic programmes presented during the most recent accreditation exercise conducted by the National Universities Commission.
The commendation was contained in a communiqué issued at the 105th Council Meeting of the University of Benin Alumni Association held on June 13, 2026, at Sheba Event Centre, Ikeja, Lagos.

Council described the achievement as a significant milestone in the university’s sustained commitment to academic excellence and quality education, noting that the feat further strengthens the institution’s reputation as one of Nigeria’s leading universities.
The alumni body also lauded the Vice-Chancellor for initiating the proposed ₦100 billion Trust Development Fund, describing the initiative as visionary and capable of transforming the university’s infrastructure and academic development. Council assured the university management of its full support towards the successful realization of the ambitious project.
In another resolution, the Council expressed deep concern over the deteriorating security situation across the country, particularly the increasing cases of kidnapping and other violent crimes.
The association called on federal, state, and local governments, as well as traditional rulers, corporate organizations, religious leaders, and citizens, to work collaboratively to tackle the security challenges confronting the nation.
Council specifically urged relevant authorities to intensify efforts towards securing the immediate release of kidnapped school children and teachers in Oyo and Kogi states, as well as other victims currently held by criminal elements across the federation.
The meeting also commended the Lagos State Government for sustaining a peaceful environment and making notable strides in infrastructure development. The Council encouraged the state government to maintain its developmental momentum for the benefit of residents and businesses.
