Whenever people hear the names Hilda Dokubo and Asari Dokubo, many assume they only share the same surname. Surprisingly, the two are actually related by blood.
Hilda Dokubo was born in Buguma, a town in Asari-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State, as the first of six children.
According to Hilda Dokubo, she and Asari Dokubo are cousins. However, she has explained that in their culture, there is really no distinction between cousins and siblings. They are simply regarded as brothers and sisters, which is why she proudly refers to Asari Dokubo as her brother.
Although they come from the same family, they chose completely different career paths. Hilda built a successful career in Nollywood and became one of Nigeria’s most respected actresses, while Asari Dokubo became a prominent political activist, security expert, and public figure.
Beyond acting, Hilda has also been involved in public service. She was appointed to head the Labour Party’s Rivers State Steering Committee. However, in February 2025, she was suspended by the party following internal disputes and allegations that included misconduct, extortion, and negligence. Hilda Dokubo denied any wrongdoing, and the matter became part of a wider disagreement within the party.
One thing many people admire about both Hilda Dokubo and Asari Dokubo is their commitment to helping others. Hilda has spent years supporting vulnerable children and community causes through her humanitarian work. Asari Dokubo has also, on different occasions, been publicly associated with community development projects, including educational support, assistance with hospital bills, the provision of boreholes, and other charitable initiatives in different communities.

One interesting fact is that Hilda has often said she neither drinks alcohol nor smukes, choosing instead to live a disciplined lifestyle while dedicating much of her time to her family, career, and humanitarian activities.
