Dr. Andrew Omagbemi Igban, All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Delta State House of Assembly, Warri South West Constituency II, has expressed deep sorrow over the reported passing of former Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Ewetan Uduaghan, describing his death as a painful loss to his family, political associates and the people of Delta State.
In a condolence statement signed by Dr. Igban, he described the late former governor as a true Deltan, statesman and public servant whose years of service occupy an important place in the political history of the state.
Igban noted that Uduaghan’s public service career spanned several strategic positions, including Commissioner for Health, Secretary to the State Government and Governor of Delta State, a position he held for two terms.
According to him, the passing of a former governor who played significant roles in the development and political evolution of Delta State provides an opportunity for reflection on the demands of leadership, the sacrifices of public service and the legacy leaders leave behind.
“Dr. Emmanuel Ewetan Uduaghan was more than a former governor; he was a son of Delta whose years in public service formed an important chapter in the political journey of our dear state.
“His passing is a painful reminder that, beyond political offices and titles, what ultimately remains is the legacy we leave behind and the lives we touch in the course of our service to humanity,” he said.
The APC candidate stressed that political differences should not diminish the shared humanity that binds people together, adding that moments of grief call for compassion, unity and respect for the departed.
He extended his condolences to the Uduaghan family, political associates, friends and all Deltans mourning the reported loss, praying that God would grant them the strength to bear the irreparable loss.
Igban also urged the people of Delta State, particularly younger generations of political leaders, to reflect on the late governor’s years in public service and the lessons they offer on leadership, responsibility and commitment to the common good.
He maintained that the significance of a leader’s life should not be measured solely by the offices occupied but also by the contribution made to society and the place secured in the collective memory of the people.
“As we mourn the departure of Dr. Emmanuel Ewetan Uduaghan, may we be reminded that leadership is a responsibility, public service is a privilege, and a life devoted to the service of the people will always have a place in history,” Igban added.
He prayed that Almighty God would grant the departed eternal rest and comfort his family and all those affected by the loss.
May the soul of Dr. Emmanuel Ewetan Uduaghan rest in perfect peace.
