The Chief Adviser to the Governor of Delta State, Distinguished Senator Chief Ighoyota Amori, PhD, has been honoured with an Award of Recognition by the Faculty of Management Sciences, University of Benin (UNIBEN), in acknowledgment of his outstanding contributions to leadership, public service, governance and national development.
The award was presented during the 9th Prof. Adebayo Akerele Memorial Lecture Series, held on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at the Akin Deko Auditorium, Ugbowo Campus of the University of Benin, Edo State.
Although unavoidably absent, Senator Amori represented by Chief Dr. Malachy Emeje, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Delta State on Community Development; conveyed Amori’s appreciation through an acceptance speech in which the Chief Adviser described the recognition from his alma mater as both humbling and deeply meaningful.
Addressing the Vice-Chancellor, Principal Officers of the University, the Dean and members of the Faculty of Management Sciences, as well as other distinguished guests, Amori expressed profound gratitude to the institution for finding him worthy of the honour.
“It is my honour to receive this prestigious award. I sincerely thank the University authorities and the Faculty of Management Sciences for this special recognition. Though I am unavoidably absent, I am deeply honoured to be recognised by my alma mater, an institution that played a vital role in shaping my academic and leadership journey,” he said.
He noted that the award would serve as renewed motivation to remain steadfast in promoting selfless service, good governance and national development.
“I accept this award with gratitude and humility, and see it as an encouragement to remain committed to selfless service, good governance and national development,” he stated.
The recognition adds to the growing list of honours bestowed on the Delta State Chief Adviser in acknowledgment of his decades of service in politics, governance and community development.
Over the years, Senator Amori has earned a reputation as a grassroots mobiliser, advocate of inclusive governance and mentor to young people. Through his interventions in education, youth empowerment, leadership development and community advancement, he has positively impacted countless lives across Delta State and beyond.
As Chief Adviser to the Governor of Delta State, Amori has continued to play a strategic role in policy advisory, stakeholder engagement and the implementation of initiatives that support Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s M.O.R.E. Agenda, particularly in fostering peace, political stability and sustainable development.
The 9th Prof. Adebayo Akerele Memorial Lecture Series brought together academics, public officials, professionals and students to reflect on leadership, management and national development while celebrating individuals whose contributions have made significant impacts in their respective fields.
The honour bestowed on Senator Amori underscores the University of Benin’s recognition of alumni who have distinguished themselves through exemplary leadership, integrity and unwavering commitment to public service, while inspiring younger generations to pursue excellence and make meaningful contributions to society.
