Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, and Senator Ede Dafinone have celebrated former governor of the state, Chief James Onanefe Ibori, at 68, describing him as a transformational leader whose contributions to Delta State, the Niger Delta and Nigeria remain enduring.
The felicitations came on Tuesday as Ibori, who governed Delta State from 1999 to 2007, marked his 68th birthday.
Oborevwori, in a congratulatory message issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, described Ibori as a “dynamic and inspirational leader” whose vision, resilience and commitment to public service inspired many and helped lay critical foundations for the development of the state.
The governor said Ibori’s impact continued to resonate across Delta State and beyond, noting that his leadership had left significant footprints in the political and developmental history of the state.
“On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, I congratulate our dynamic and inspirational leader, Chief James Onanefe Ibori, former Governor of Delta State, on his 68th birth anniversary,” Oborevwori said.
He prayed God to continue to grant the former governor good health, strength and longevity, while wishing him a birthday filled with joy and pleasant memories.
Joining in the birthday tributes, Senator Ede Dafinone, on behalf of the people of Delta Central Senatorial District, described Ibori as a distinguished leader whose vision, courage and commitment to public service helped lay the foundation for the emergence of a modern Delta State.
Dafinone said Ibori’s legacy transcended physical infrastructure, pointing to his investment in human capital, inclusive governance and the empowerment of a new generation of political leaders.
He also credited the former governor with significant contributions to democratic governance, national unity and the advancement of the Niger Delta.
The senator said Ibori’s experience and counsel as an elder statesman continued to command respect across political and ethnic divides, particularly in the quest for peace, stability and national development.
According to Dafinone, Ibori’s commitment to Delta State and his love for the Urhobo people had earned him a lasting place in the hearts of many who continue to look up to him for wisdom and direction.
“As you mark another year of God’s grace, I pray that the Almighty grants you continued good health, strength, wisdom and many more fruitful years,” Dafinone said.
He prayed for God’s continued preservation of the former governor, describing his leadership and guidance as invaluable to the nation, Delta State and the Urhobo Nation.
