Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, and Senator Ede Dafinone have felicitated former Minister of Information and renowned political scientist, Professor Sam Ejite Oyovbaire, on his 85th birthday, describing him as an accomplished scholar, elder statesman and patriot whose contributions to nation-building remain enduring.
The tributes came as the respected academic and former federal minister marked the milestone, with the governor and senator commending his decades of service to Nigeria, Delta State and humanity.
Oborevwori, in a statement issued on Tuesday in Asaba by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, said Oyovbaire’s distinguished career in academia, public service and governance had earned him national recognition and established him as one of Delta State’s most distinguished sons.
The governor particularly commended the octogenarian for his unwavering commitment to peace, democracy and good governance, noting that his leadership as Chairman of the Delta State Advisory and Peace Building Council had continued to contribute to unity and stability in the state.
Oborevwori also recalled Oyovbaire’s service as Minister of Information under the administration of former Military President, General Ibrahim Babangida, where he played a significant role in government communication and public policy.
According to the governor, Oyovbaire’s vast experience, intellectual depth and commitment to public service have remained invaluable to successive administrations in Delta State, while his contributions to political science, governance and public administration continue to inspire scholars, public office holders and younger generations.
“Professor Sam Oyovbaire is an exceptional scholar, accomplished administrator, respected statesman and leader whose life has been dedicated to the service of humanity,” Oborevwori said.
The governor added: “On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, I warmly congratulate Professor Sam Oyovbaire, a father-figure, lifter of men, and great Nigerian patriot on this remarkable milestone.
“It is my prayer that this new year will bring you as much joy, love, and hope as you spread to others with your reassuring attitude.”
Also celebrating the former minister, Senator Ede Dafinone, representing Delta Central Senatorial District, described Oyovbaire as a distinguished scholar, eminent statesman and respected patriot whose life had been defined by intellectual excellence, principled leadership and commitment to nation-building.
Dafinone said Oyovbaire’s distinguished career in academia and public service had contributed significantly to Nigeria’s democratic evolution, public administration and political thought, leaving a legacy capable of inspiring generations of Nigerians.
The senator also acknowledged Oyovbaire’s contributions to the advancement of Delta State and the development of the Okpe Kingdom, describing his commitment to his people as evidence of an enduring sense of duty and responsibility.
He said the former minister’s voice of wisdom, integrity and moderation had remained invaluable in shaping public discourse and mentoring emerging leaders.
“As you celebrate another year of God’s grace and faithfulness, I pray that the Almighty grants you continued good health, strength, wisdom and peace,” Dafinone said.
He prayed that God would continue to preserve Oyovbaire as a source of counsel and inspiration, while granting him greater fulfilment, joy and abundant blessings in the years ahead.
Dafinone, on behalf of his family and the people of Delta Central Senatorial District, extended his warmest congratulations and best wishes to the former minister on the occasion of his 85th birthday.
Professor Sam Ejite Oyovbaire’s 85th birthday has therefore provided an opportunity for political leaders, scholars and associates to celebrate a life marked by scholarship, public service, intellectual leadership and commitment to the development of Nigeria and Delta State.
